Meenan Transmission 42RLE Converter Failure

This transmission was removed from a Dodge Nitro. This transmission had been exhibiting some operational concerns for the customer that were intermittent. The fluid that was in the transmission was black and a pan pan removal it was very evident that something inside the transmission was failing. The transmission was removed and disassembled and the extent of damage inside the transmission and contamination inside the transmission was very apparent. This transmission had a failure of the torque converter. This torque converter material went throughout the entire transmission. This contamination damaged internal bushings of the transmission also got spread throughout clutch components. Fortunately this transmission was removed before extensive gear train or pump damage did occur. This transmission incorporates a variable line pressure control system in it. This line pressure control system is designed to keep operating pressures as low as possible to improveFuel mileage. This transmission is rebuild a bowl and will save a significant amount compared to a remanufactured transmission. Due to the extent of the contamination it is going to be required to replace the cooler on the vehicle. This transmission cooler will be installed as a standalone unit.
