Join Mark Warren of the Medicine Bow Wilderness School as he discusses how some of the most common native trees and plants were used by the Cherokee for food, medicine, insect repellant, crafts, shelter and fire. Mark shows some of the plants and demonstrates how to use them in this video. Much of the information in this video can be found in Mark's book, "Secrets of the Forest: Volume I, Wild Plants and Survival Lore."
The Charlotte region is home to the Southern Piedmont Chapter of the North Carolina Native Plant Society. Our mission is to promote the enjoyment and conservation of North Carolina’s native plants and their habitats through education, protection, promulgation and advocacy.
The Southern Piedmont Chapter meets the second Sunday of most months during the year. Our meetings are both virtual and in-person open to the public as well as members-only hikes and other events.
