Powermat develops in-car wireless charging solutions that charge smartphones, wearables, and any Qi-enabled device, wirelessly.
We specialize in delivering turnkey wireless charging reference designs for global automotive OEMs and tier-1 suppliers, which have already been embedded in millions of vehicles worldwide.
Cars are a complex environment. The main challenges that come up when designing in-car wireless charging technology include: charging speed, freedom of positioning, dealing with foreign objects, and EMC compatibility.
To tackle these challenges, our technology provides fast wireless charging that includes Qi®15W Extended Power Protocol and fully supports Apple & Samsung’s fast charge protocols.
Additionally, our technology includes a sophisticated foreign object detection mechanism, including a refined quality factor FOD.
Our solutions are designed to allow a high level of freedom of positioning, meaning that charging areas are scalable according to manufacturer constraints and requirements while maintaining the required automotive-grade EMC standards and Qi certifications.
The platform can either leverage a classic three coil or a single-coil design.
Powermat’s unique technology offers up to 66% more operational area per coil resulting in more freedom of positioning than other solutions in the market.
In comparison to other solutions that use multiple MCUs and a large number of peripheral components, which can easily drive high costs to the overall product, Powermat’s wireless technology is based on software-implemented algorithms and uses a single MCU to significantly reduce the number of peripherals and overall components in the system.
Our complete reference design includes connectivity features such as NFC and CAN-BUS, which enables NFC card protection, device pairing, keyless car functionality, and personalization.
Powermat’s unique flexible architecture can be tailor-fitted to any products’ specific needs and meets automotive environment requirements, such as CISPR 25 Class 5. Our team of specialists provides support from design to production, including certifications, testing, and system software customizations.
