Dozens of Ukrainian sapper soldiers trained on Friday (March 24) amid the four-week training provided by Spain’s Armed Forces on how to build trenches and bridges before heading back to the war in their country.

A group of 40 soldiers received instructions at the military base near the northern city of Burgos, in Castrillo del Val, during their third week of training.

“I hope they can have all the information to stay alive and to win this war,” commented Ukrainian translator Ana on their colleagues training.

The Spanish training is part of the European Union Military Assistance Mission in support of Ukraine (EUMAM Ukraine).

Spain will send six of the ten German-made Leopard 2A4 tanks to Ukraine next week, Spanish Defence minister said on Thursday (March 23).

Other NATO countries, including Germany, Poland and Portugal, have said they would deliver a total of 48 Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine.

Kyiv has secured from several of its Western allies pledges to send modern battlefield tanks to help fend off Russia's invasion as Moscow steps up its efforts to make advances in eastern Ukraine.
