Hurricane Otis embarked on an
Hurricane Otis embarked on an extraordinary intensification process yesterday, and is now a Category 4 storm drawing dangerously close to the coast of Guerrero, Mexico. Landfall is expected overnight tonight, and the National Hurricane Center are now predicting the storm to reach Category 5 intensity as it does so. Otis is now expected to cause catastrophic wind impacts, and heavy flooding rains reaching up to 10 inches (250mm).
Hurricane Tammy is also strengthening to the northeast of the Lesser Antilles, and is expected to swivel around to the west later this week and turn post-tropical. The storm is then expected to swipe Bermuda.
Elsewhere, Cyclone Lola is sweeping through the central islands of Vanuatu still as a strong Category 2 storm with winds of around 100 miles per hour sustained. The storm is expected to rapidly weaken after it clears the islands and heads towards New Caledonia. Soon afterwards, the storm will get absorbed by a large extratropical low, and head towards New Zealand.
In the Eastern Pacific, two other areas of interest could form later in the week, as well as a potential storm in the Western Pacific.
