चंदन तिवारी ने पुरबियातान सीरीज की शुरुआत महेंदर मिसिर के गीतों से ही की. महेंदर मिसिर के गीतों को लेकर इनका काम ठोस है. महेंदर मिसिर पर किये गये इनके काम को मनोज बाजपेयी जैसे लोगों ने सराहा. पटना आकर महेंदर मिसिर के गीतों के अलबम का लोकार्पण किया. हिंदी के मशहूर साहित्यकार संजीव ने जब महेंदर मिसिर की जीवनी पर उपन्यास लिखा तो चंदन तिवारी को क्रेडिट दिया. द हिंदू अखबार में जेपी एन सिंह ने जब महेंदर मिसिर पर लंबा लेख लिखा तो चंदन तिवारी के योगदान को रेखांकित किया. लोकगायकी में, लोक रचना संसार में महेंदर मिसिर पहचान पुरबी को लेकर है. बेशक उन्होंने पुरबी को एक नया आयाम और अपार विस्तार दिया. वे आरंभिक दिनों में शिव को रच रहे थे तब, राम को लेकर अपूर्ण रामायण रच रहे थे, तब, प्रेम गीतों को रच रहे थे तब, राधाकृष्ण को रच रहे थे तब, सभी गीतों को पुरबी के रंग में ढाल रहे थे. यह उनकी खासियत थी. पर,उनकी पहचान सिर्फ पुरबी तक सीमित नहीं थी. उनकी रचनाओं से गुजरते हुए पुरबी के समानांतर ही प्रेम का उभार होता है मन में. महेंदर मिसिर लोकभाषाओं की दुनिया में प्रेम को केंद्रीय विषय बनानेवाले अनोखे रचनाकार हुए. शुरुआत उन्होंने शिव भजन रचने से की. राम को उन्होंने अनोखे तरीके से रचा. अपूर्ण रामायण ही लिखा. कृष्ण पर तो उनके गीतों का कोई जोड़ नहीं. उनके निरगुण गीतों की दुनिया एकदम अलग है. वे तो आजादी का भी तराना लिखे. 'हमरा निको नाही लागेला गोरन के करनी...' जैसे गीत. और भी दूसरे विषयों को केंद्र बनाकर उन्होंने अनेकानेक रचनाएं की. लेकिन, प्रेम अहम विषय रहा. उनकी रचनाओं से गुजरते हुए कई बार ऐसा लगता है, जैसे वे अपने समय में प्रेम को केंद्र में रखकर स्त्री मुक्ति की राह बना रहे थे. भोजपुरी समाज की जड़ताओं को तोड़ने की कोशिश कर रहे थे. देहरी के अंदर रहनेवाली स्त्रियों के मन में पलनेवाले प्रेम को स्वर देकर उन्हें मजबूत करना चाह रहे थे. कितना कठीन रहा होगा उनके लिए. किस तरह वह स्त्री मन के अंदर की बातों को, एकदम से शब्दों में उतारते होंगे. कितनी गहराई में डूब जाते होंगे वे. स्त्री ही तो बन जाते होंगे, लिखते समय...महेंदर मिसिर के गीतों में प्रेम विषय होता था और पात्र स्त्रियां लेकिन स्त्रियों का तन नहीं मन प्रमुख होता था.

She represented Indian folk music at the International Music Festival held in Netherlands, Bihar Mahotsav held at Dubai, besides performing the folk music of Bihar in notable national venues. Miss Tiwari believes that all artforms have their own significance and value in the world, however what sets folk music aparts, is its nature of enhacing collectivity, and eliminating superiority. In folk music, natural elements, landforms, flora and fauna are all accorded equal importance. She believes that art is not just a means or medium of entertainment, but has a deep concern of making society much more beautiful by evolving humanism. Art is a medium that frees the human world from discriminations of caste and creed, communal and religious differences, gender inequality, by transforming itself as an independent and engaging religion.”
