David Beckham Launches His Debut Eyewear Range
Let’s face it, everything David Beckham touches turns to gold, so when he decided to launch his own eyewear range.
Being a man of exacting standards when it comes to his game and his wardrobe, Beckham’s decision to partner with Italian eyewear manufacturer Safilo was a smart one. The Padua-based firm has a pedigree in the field that stretches back to 1878, so it’s fair to say they’ve had plenty of time to perfect their craft.
For the 42-piece collection of sunglasses and optical frames, Beckham took inspiration from the vintage styles of the ‘50s, ‘60s and ‘70s, as well as his own personal stash. “I love glasses and have collected many over the years. I went through my own archives – and my wife’s [which she doesn’t know about] – and also visited vintage shops so we could create this range. The way I’ve dressed over the years, I’ve always looked at people like Steve McQueen and Paul Newman and they were very much part of the inspiration,” says Beckham.
