Nenthead Mines Part Two - Rampgill Mine

Join us on the second part of our adventure in the North Pennines. On this trip we visit Rampgill horse level reopened in 2006 by a mine exploring group called NORPEX, there were many collapses and a big amount of the mine has been shored up to prevent further collapse, thanks and credit is due to these folks for their hardwork and dedication to making this place accessible for further generations to explore and to see the many amazing artifacts within. Rampgill vein is thought to have been worked since around 1670, the Rampgill horse level was driven in 1736 following a vein called the Scaleburn Moss, this lead to Fairhill Vein which then brought them to Rampgill, Rampgill also possibly has older workings predating 1690.
