The Mackie 1604VLZ Mixing Console is a very compact unit providing 16 XLR microphone inputs with globally-switched phantom power, with respectable preamps. As such, it can be used for live sound reinforcement as well as recording. Insert points on all input channels allow connection of a 16-channel recorder.
This is a simple analogue mixer: there is no integral effects processor, and there is no computer interface.
The unit is very heavy for its footprint. It has an integral power supply, and runs warm to the touch in prolonged operation, although this is normal.
This particular unit is in good condition, the only sign of wear being a single damaged gain trim knob (which has not caused any internal functional damage).
As part of this system, which includes its original retail packaging and operating manual, is an accessory enclosure, described as the 'pod' by the manufacturers, which allows the rear connector panel to be swung either upwards (for front-face access), to the top (at right angles to the mixing board, and providing a neat appearance for installed applications), and also to the rear (for vertical rack mounting applications such as a keyboard mixer). There are two sets of rack wings of different lengths to suit the different potential mechanical configurations.
