Pond Aerator // It's Improving the Water in the Backyard Pond

The solar powered pond aerator is doing a great job clearing up the algae colored water from last summer. This year I use blue pond dye and some water column clarifier which is a beneficial bacteria that fixes nitrogen and binds phosphorous. With the pond dye and water clarifier used with the pond aerator, the pond has started the year off with some great water clarity and color. The best in years! We can see down over 4 feet in the pond, whereas last year we couldn't see down 12 inches and the awful green color is gone. The fish, minnows and bait have been loving the new clear water as well as we get some video of some fish. The solar powered pond aerator is a solar cell panel that is powered by the sun. No batteries or wires, just the air hose that connects the pumps on the back of the panel to the air stone diffuser that is lying on the bottom of the pond. The rising air bubbles from the diffuser cause a current and circulation of water to form in the pond, bringing the oxygen depleted water from the bottom up to the top and mixing it with added oxygen. After a while the pond water is mixed and the water now near the bottom of the pond is now rich in oxygen which is needed for organic matter breakdown which will remove the volume of mud and muck at the bottom of ponds.

The pond dye is used to block and reflect the suns rays so that the sun can't penetrate as deep into the pond. Without sunlight, algae and pond weeds cannot grow and reproduce. The pond dye floats in the top 6 feet of the water column and is safe to the environment and to the fish and minnows. Packets of pond dye are thrown into the pond for the initial treatment, then as the color fades, another packet is added throughout the summer, with the goal being nice, healthy, clean pond water.
