John’s purpose in John 11:1-44, is to record Jesus’ resurrection of Lazarus from the dead. This miracle is second greatest of all the signs Jesus performed in His second aside from His own resurrection. In this event, Jesus delays to come to Lazarus so that he dies. This is not because of callous indifference, but for the loving display of His glory in the resurrection from the dead. Here, we see that Jesus is the source and substance of resurrection life for those who believe in Him.
