DITRA is an isolation membrane that prevents tiles from cracking. Schluter makes DITRA and has a fantastic installation handbook on their site (https://www.schluter.com/schluter-us/...)
First, DITRA is super light, which makes it easy to install. Second, it's only 1/8" thick. This is great for transitioning between tile floors and adjacent rooms.
DITRA can be installed over both wood and concrete subfloors. Modified thin-set (ANSI A118.11) should be used between DITRA and wood subfloors. But Unmodified thin-set (ANSI A118.1) should be used between DITRA and concrete floors.
All seams and transitions can be waterproofed using KERDI-BAND or KERDI-FIX.
