There are a lot of misconceptions about jazz, even from jazz musicians themselves, or people claiming to be. A lot of it comes down to taste and desired direction... but do we really have the privilege and comfort to be picky in this music? In this Real Talk "rant", basically, I'm talking about a fundamental reality of playing jazz in the current decade and beyond as a working musician, and also as a completely free spirit at the same time. It's a tricky line to walk, but it's possible. Here's an introduction to that idea...
