Launch Update by United Launch Alliance (ULA), May 7: Out of an abundance of caution for the safety of the flight and pad crew, we scrubbed the Crew Flight Test (CFT) launch attempt today due to an observation on a liquid oxygen self-regulating solenoid relief valve on the Centaur upper stage. The team needs additional time to complete a full assessment, so we are targeting the next launch attempt no earlier than Friday, May 10. The new live stream is set here (NET - Not Earlier Than): https://www.seevid.ir/fa/w/3gml290-pLQ Boeing Crew Flight Test (Boe CFT) will be the first crewed mission of the Boeing Starliner and its third orbital flight test overall after the two uncrewed flight tests, OFT-1 and OFT-2. The first crewed test flight test was initially planned for 2017. Various delays have pushed the launch of the CFT mission to no earlier than May 2024. Because of the launch of CRS SPX-30, a SpaceX Cargo mission to the ISS, it has been postponed again to May because, for about 30 days, there are no free docking ports available at the ISS for US spacecraft. It will fly with a crew of two NASA astronauts to the International Space Station for a one-week test flight, earliest on May 6, 2024. The Boeing Starliner is scheduled to be launched on a ULA Atlas N22 from Space Launch Complex 41 (SLC-41) no earlier than May 6 at 10:34 p.m. EDT (https://www.seevid.ir/fa/w/Oed2KpyJUmo UTC, https://www.seevid.ir/fa/w/Oed2KpyJUmo CEST - May 7). The launch also demonstrates the first launch from the Cape Canaveral Space Force Station (formerly Cape Canaveral Air Force Base) since Apollo 7 in October 1968 and the first human launch from SLC-41 (Space Launch Complex 41). The crew will consist of two NASA astronauts, Barry Wilmore (Commander) and Sunita Williams (Pilot). NASA Astronaut Michel Fincke will serve as a backup commander for the mission. The third Atlas V N22 launch vehicle variant will launch Starliner with a crew of two. The vehicle will dock with the International Space Station and return to Earth under parachutes for a ground landing in the United States. Boeing teams continue refurbishing the crew module from the OFT-1 mission for the Crew Flight Test. This will be the first launch of a crewed spacecraft by an Atlas V vehicle. Based upon current space station resources and scheduling needs, a short-duration mission with two astronaut test pilots is sufficient to meet all NASA and Boeing test objectives for CFT, which include demonstrating Starliner’s ability to safely fly operational crewed missions to and from the space station. To protect against unforeseen events with crew transportation to the station, NASA may extend the CFT docked duration up to six months and add an additional astronaut later, if needed.
