Ubatuba is a coastal municipality in Brazil’s São Paulo state, surrounded by the rainforest of the Serra do Mar National Park. Itamambuca Beach, in the northeast, is known for its strong surf. The waters around Anchieta Island provide a feeding area for sea turtles. In Ubatuba, the TAMAR Project protects the turtles and has a visitor center with tanks. More marine creatures are on display at Ubatuba Aquarium.
Weather and Events:
Ubatuba has a warm, tropical climate. Rainfall occurs year-round, increasing Oct–Apr. Peak season is Dec–Jan and during Carnival (Feb/Mar). The annual Feast of São Pedro Pescador (Jun) celebrates the mullet harvest with boat processions and music. During the annual Folia de Santos Reis (Dec–Jan), musicians tour local houses. Local, national and international surfing competitions take place in Ubatuba year-round.
