How is it? What does it involve? Is it painful? Would she recommend it? Patient Joyce discusses her TIXEL treatment in full.

Joyce: My name is Joyce and I'm having a course of TIXEL treatment. I was recommended to go there by people that I know, that have been, everybody is very highly trained it's very professional and they have a good range of treatments on offer.

I wasn't sure what I wanted to get when I first came. I came to see Victoria and she knows all about all the treatments and I just said the result that I wanted and she recommended that I try TIXEL.

I just want to do something to resurface my skin a bit, and that's what I wanted wrinkles and a bit of tightening up.

The CO2 laser you have one treatment, and yeah you have a long down time and it's very very painful and I wouldn't do it again. The TIXEL you come away you look like you've had a day in the sun your face is a little bit warm and it's red and if you look really, really, really closely in the mirror you can see tiny grid marks on your face where the needles have gone in. But you'd have to look closely, so for these 24 hours you probably wouldn't want to go out and about. Because your face a little bit pink, but the next day you can put makeup on and you just carry on as normal and unless you know that I'd had something done you wouldn't be able to tell.

So I've had one treatment of three so far, so I was a little bit nervous - but when I arrived everyone was fabulous which is really reassuring - put me at ease. I got covered in a nice strong anaesthetic cream on my face and I had that on for half an hour before my treatment, so my skin was quite numb before I went in.

When she first started doing the treatment and it's like lots of little needles or it's like a little grid of needles that goes into the face just breaks the surface of the skin and I didn't feel a thing. It was just so comfortable, but it wasn't all totally comfortable I can't lie and say you feel absolutely nothing, because you do feel something. But compared to other treatments I've had for resurfacing it's very very comfortable and easy to bear.

I've actually been really impressed with my first treatment. I thought I wouldn't really notice much difference but I have. I do feel that my skin tone is much more even it's - I mean a couple of people have said to me you know you've got a bit of a glow about your skin which I hadn't expected after one treatment, but I do see it myself. I think it's long-term results you're looking for this isn't just you know you get the treatments and two weeks later you're back to where you started and this goes on and apparently the collagen is building under the skin and that will go on for months after your treatment. So you'll continue to see those improvements, so yeah I think after one treatment I'm really impressed - I'm quite excited to see what's going to happen after three.
