In this episode of my Great Movies series, we'll look at a recent release from writer/director Paul Schrader, best known for writing "Taxi Driver."
It's "First Reformed," the story about a Christian minister who is also a caretaker and tour guide of an historical New York church.
Schrader quotes Bresson's "Diary of a Country Priest," many Andrei Tarkovsky movies, and his own "Taxi Driver" to create a haunted story about a minister on the brink of despair. "First Reformed" depicts an isolated pastor who becomes obsessed with a single issue, environmentalism, and the possible destruction of the world.
