Hello Everybody, In this video, we will understand General Defences or General Exceptions that are mentioned in Chapter 4 of IPC from Section 76-106 of Indian Penal Code.

Criminal Liability has been defined as being responsible for a criminal act.
The defences as discussed under Section 76-106 of IPC are based on the fact that although the person committed an offense, he cannot be held criminally liable because as at the time the offense was committed, he was justified of his acts or he had no intention to commit such offense.

The General Exceptions stipulated under Sections 76 to 106 of the IPC, 1860 includes the
following:
1. Mistake of fact (Sections 76 and 79)
2. Judicial act (Section 77 and 78)
3. Accident (Section 80)
4. Necessity (Section 81)
5. Infancy (Sections 82 and 83)
6. Insanity (Section 84)
7. Intoxication (Sections 85 and 86)
8. Consent (Sections 87- 92)
9. Communication (Section 93)
10. Duress (Section 94)
11. Trifles (Section 95)
12. Private Defense (Sections 96 – 106)
