IBANEZ ARTCORE SERIES AS93 : CAN IT SHRED? CAN IT FEEL?

A couple of online musicians and guitarists here in England have been asking me why I've chosen this guitar throughout my more fusion-esque, shreddier jams on Instagram, so I thought I'd share a mini compilation of myself playing the AS93 in my current style, and briefly explain why I'm not using this guitar for it's conventional uses. This is a small demonstration as to why you shouldn't limit your style and playing methods to what the manufacturers intended the guitar to be used for, it's nonsense! Perhaps sometimes, like me in this instance, there is no other way...

Firstly, if a guitar's built for a specific function, great, it'll probably be used by many to accommodate that need, ie "jazz" in this case, however I can't stress enough how it really doesn't matter what the guitar was built for, you may find little niches within the instrument that help you advance a totally opposing style. For example with this AS93, the natural sustain has really shone through with the effects and VST's I've been using, which has led me study other various techniques, such as longer legato lines, and accentuating certain overtones within the lower register of the guitar in regards to harmonics, artificial, pinched, or tapped!

Secondly, I'm waiting for a delivery of strings, and my other guitars need some TLC (also waiting on some tools to arrive!) so I actually have no choice but to advance in the areas I want to, with a non-conventional guitar! It's worked out well for me, I've had to alter my right hand technique slightly due to lack of strat-style pick guard and bridge set up, something else that helps Roberto Legato, BUT I want to stress the importance of pushing a guitar past it's boundaries, make of that what you will and I will not be responsible for any snapped necks, broken wrists, finger snaps broken nuts.

Note : I am not trying to devalue the work that goes into these beautiful instruments, of course it matters how they're built, rather I'm trying to help break the stigma around playing more virtuosically with a guitar that may not have specifically have been designed for that. We're all free and who cares if you show up to a thrash gig with a Gretsch Streamliner...No but seriously, happy playing folks.
