Alan Bennett and David Vaisey - The History Boys 2014

"A conversation about a friendship begun in Oxford fifty years ago." As part of a month-long display of Alan Bennett's archives to mark his 80th birthday in 2014, Bennet met with former Bodley's Librarian David Vaisey, to reminisce about his experiences and recite from some of his writings. The display was shown as 'small recompense' to the writer as a result of his donation to the Libraries. In 2008 Alan Bennett gave his literary papers to the Bodleian Libraries describing the gift as 'an obligation repaid [for his free state education]. I see this gift … as some small recompense both to the University and also to the state'.
