Filmed over 5 years (1988-93), following the fortunes of three families in Sunderland set against the backdrop of industrial regeneration of the town following the closure of the shipyards.
Plans are drawn up for a prestigious new housing development on North Dock, Sunderland Polytechnic becomes a University and Sunderland get to the FA Cup Final (but lose).
Our three young people all have new challenges in front of them, not all see their future in Sunderland and those that do have had a tough introduction to the world of work.
The new Nissan Micra is launched heralded by trumpets as the last shipbuilding shed is pulled down and Wearmouth pit is finally closed and blown up; the final piece of the demolition jigsaw.
