China records most executions globally

China executes more people than any other country but official statistics about the executions of those on death row remain part of state secrets. Reports show that the number of executions in China could range from 4,000 to 5,000 annually although the execution figures that make it to the public domain are usually not more than 1600 every year. Capital offenses attract the death penalty in China and the law has been retained on non-violent crimes like drug trafficking and corruption.
