Description:
This video is geared towards beginner players and their coaches.  Toe taps are a great, basic way to increase touches at practice and develop control and touch.  For older players toe taps can be used as fitness work by increasing the speed and time they are done.

Key Points:
1. Touch ball with your toe studs.  Use the bottom of your cleats, below your toes and touch the top of the ball.

2. As fast as you touch the ball is as fast as you remove your foot. Lots of young players push down on the ball to hard with their foot and almost try to stand on the ball.  It should be quick movements.

3. Switch between your right and left foot quickly.  Be light on your feet.

4. Ball should be in front of the player, not directly under their feet.  It needs to be out in front so they can get their toe studs on.  If it's directly under them their whole foot will be on the ball and that will throw them off balance and put to much weight on the ball.

5. For basic toe taps the ball shouldn't move forward or backward, it should stay in the same spot.

Exercise Player Can Do:
Try this exercise first without the ball.  Get use to quickly moving your feet.  Once comfortable do toe taps on the ball.  Go for 10-15 seconds then relax and repeat a few times.  After a few tries make a contest out of it!  See how many you or your players can do in 15 seconds!  Mix learning with fun!  Games are fun!

What Player Could Be Doing Wrong:
If a player is falling over the ball they are toe tapping with their whole foot, not their toe studs and putting too much of their weight on the ball.  Make sure the ball is out in front of them a bit, not directly under them, so it's a natural touch for their toe studs.

Bonus Tip!
Young players may have a hard time moving their feet fast enough to do this in the beginning but they will get it as they practice.  Be patient as coaches and players.  Enjoy the process of improving!
