Has there ever been a more highly anticipated movie that wound up bitterly dividing fans as prominent as Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises? Coming hot on the heels of The Dark Knight, which is still widely considered the best superhero film ever made, expectations could not have been higher for Nolan’s trilogy capper. Yet, there were problems right from the get-go. The most obvious issue, of course, was that Heath Ledger, who so memorably played The Joker, was dead by the time The Dark Knight hit theaters. There was no way that the character could ever be included in the sequel without seeming opportunistic. Instead, Tom Hardy’s Bane would be the villain, Bane, but when an IMAX prelude was released before Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol, there was a problem. People could not understand what the heck Bane was saying. Little did anyone know, this would become a recurring problem with Nolan’s films, with many criticizing Tenet for its indecipherable dialogue. When the film eventually came out, it was overshadowed by the tragic Aurora shooting, but in time people would eventually come out in droves to see Nolan’s final film in the Dark Knight trilogy. But in the end, many fans didn’t like it, while others thought it was a masterpiece. To this day, some consider it the worst Batman movie, while some also consider it perhaps the best. So what’s the truth? It’s somewhere in the middle, as we explain in this episode of DC Revisited profiling The Dark Knight Rises. This episode was written and edited by Adam Walton, while Tyler Nichols narrated. What do you think of The Dark Knight Rises? Let us know in the comments!
