Alpaca Handling

How to move alpacas using a herding tape, plus some husbandry tasks - injecting, condition scoring and top-knot trimming. A bucket of food may get them in for you but you need a fail safe plan for the times when they are not going to cooperate - when it is getting dark, when the vet is coming or if one is ill or injured. For most tasks no restraint is necessary and it is less stressful for you and your alpacas to work with them in a pen. If you have fewer alpacas tie the hurdles along their length to reduce the size of the pen. Try to be calm and breathe slowly when working with your alpacas.
