Original airdate: 12/14/2017 | Just like any other, Alex Eaves' house has a stove, a bed, and a bathroom. But it also has a steering wheel and license plate because it was once a U-Haul truck.

"It's an awesome way for me to travel, to live…" said Alex Eaves, a reuse expert.

Eaves built his tiny house from scratch and moved in this summer, a lifestyle change that's saving him some big bucks.

"I own my own house, I don't pay rent, I don't have a mortgage, I just pay for gas," said Eaves.

The 17 foot U-Haul box truck is now a 98 square foot tiny house that runs on just one outlet. It's furnished with all reused and repurposed items.

"The floor that we're standing on was completely free and was just excess flooring from a donut shop that went out of business," said Eaves.

Eaves is maximizing his minimal space and getting a little creative along the way, take the kitchen sink for example.

"This is a lobster pot we converted into my sink here," said Eaves.

Eaves now travels from city to city giving tours of his tiny box truck home.

On Thursday, he was parked at the Habitat Lehigh Valley ReStore in Whitehall, inviting everyone into his home.

"He's really living wonderfully in a really small, compact place," said Mary Anne Baunach who stopped by the ReStore to see the tiny home.

Eaves says his goal is not to promote the tiny house lifestyle, but rather to show people the power of reusing and repurposing.

"We already have all of this stuff here, there's no need to build more furniture, there's no need to build more houses, there's no need to just keep making stuff," said Eaves.
