Logic Masters India (LMI) conducted Indian Sudoku Championship 2022 at Pune in August-2022. After Playoff Round-1, Sudoku Mahabharat (SM-2022) Playoff Round-2 was held among the 1st, 2nd and 3rd rankers of Sudoku Mahabharat-2022 namely Nityant Agarwal, Aashay Patil and Dhruvarajsinh Puwar to select/ decide the 1st-3rd places of Sudoku Mahabharat (SM-2022). The Playoff was won by Nityant Agarwal and all the 3 players retained their ranks as it's, as can be seen in the video taken of said few memorable moments.
There were 2 puzzle sudokus given during the said playoff-2 challenge.
1) Classic Sudoku Rules: Use a digit from 1 to 9 to fill into each empty cell so that digits (1-9) do not repeat in any row, column or outlined 3x3 box/ region of the given sudoku grid.
2) Thermo Sudoku Rules: Classic Sudoku rules apply. Additionally, some thermometer shapes are given in the grid; numbers must be strictly in the increasing /ascending order from the round bulb to the flat end.
Key moments were the lightning speed with which Nityant Agarwal completed both the sudokus. Aashay Patil missed to put final numbers in classic Sudoku at cells R6C4 and R6C5 and was given a chance to find out his mistake as per playoff rules. Had he not committed the mistake, he could have given a fight to Nityant Agarwal for 1st position. Dhruvarajsinh Puwar was last in the said playoff round.
Nityant Agarwal won both the Sudoku Mahabharat (SM) and Puzzle Ramayan (PR) in the year 2022. Heartiest congratulations..❤️👍🏻🥇
General Playoff Rules: The competitors will begin the playoff round with a staggered start based on the total number of points earned in the qualifying previous rounds. The general Playoff rules are as follows:
1) Each match will have three players, who will compete against each other on two puzzles to see who can solve it in the fastest amount of time.
2) The initial rank is determined by the player’s performance in the regular competition. A rank with a smaller number is considered better (for example, 4th rank is better than 5th rank), and a rank with a larger number is considered worse.
3) Each round matches some players based on their rank, who then compete against each other on two sudokus to see who can solve in the fastest amount of time. If the player with the best rank wins, the three players keep their ranks the same and the best ranked player gets selected for the next playoff. If the player with the worst rank wins, then the worst player swaps his/ her rank to the best rank for the next round.
Other Important playoff round Rules during the selection process:
1) When a competitor completes a sudoku, s/he can raise her/his hand to indicate to a proctor that s/he is done. The entire grid will then be judged over the next minute.
2) After one minute, if the puzzle is correct, the proctor will indicate the competitor can begin the next puzzle.
3) If the puzzle is incorrect, the proctor will return the incorrect puzzle to the competitor but will make no indication of where any mistake is in that grid. The competitor can resubmit a returned sudoku at any time, but another full one minute grading process will follow.
