INFJ personality types usually know they have issues with perfectionism and anxiety, as well as issues with control. But most INFJ personality types don’t know that “driven behavior” controls their life. Driven behavior happens on autopilot. It is something that INFJ personality types are usually not aware of when it’s happening. INFJ personality types engage with driven behavior when under stress. Driven behavior is intense, repetitive activity that doesn’t accomplish very much. It makes the person who is in the grip of it feel very busy and stressed, but it doesn’t produce much substance. Examples of driven behavior include obsessively checking email or social media accounts, making lists when lists aren’t needed, organizing what is already organized, rearranging things, and checking on tasks without actually doing the task. Driven behavior masquerades as work; it is the illusion of striving toward productivity, but not much actually gets done. Driven behavior is also characterized by rushed, hurried energy. When INFJ personality types are engaging in driven behavior they are distracted or checked out while doing it. They are not listening or slowing down, and instead are just plowing ahead and driving themselves forward. Driven behavior gives the feeling of getting things done, but it’s an avoidant behavior that INFJ personality types use to avoid feelings, uncomfortable truths, and being in their bodies. It also usually depends on meeting someone else’s needs. Driven behavior is addictive, and so when INFJ personality types try to shift out of it, they may experience anxiety or panic. This is because many INFJ personality types depend on the constant cycle of distraction and busyness to soothe themselves. The level of driven behavior in a person’s life is always equal to the level of avoidance in that person’s life. Subscribe to Lauren’s newsletter! laurensapala.com/newsletter/
