How to start a 2018
How to start a 2018 Ford Fusion with a dead SmartKey Keyfob battery. This steps should be similar for other cars like the Ford Mustang, Ford Edge and Ford Explorer with the same KeyFob that is in the video. The cover for the keyhole may be different so check your service manual. This should work on most 2017, 2018 2019 and 2020 models. First you want to remove the key from the KeyFob by pressing the release button to release the physical key.
Next you want to remove the Keyhole cover on the door handle.
Then you want to insert the key and unlock the vehicle. This may trigger the alarm so you need to place the keyfob to where the proximity key reader is located. In the 2018 Ford Fusion it was under the rubber cup holder mat in the cup holder.
Once the vehicle reads the key, you can then step on the brake pedal and press the engine start button to start your vehicle.
