In this youtube video I build and test fire a 45 pound survival osage orange, hedge apple, longbow from a stave that has been curing for 5 years. I used a draw knife, hatchet, and hammer only to build this bow and it fires at about 160 fps when I use a thumb release on a d-loop and draw to my real draw length.
I went hunting with it last year and shot a 6 point buck in the liver. I'll admit that the shot I took was too far at about 20 yards, and I never recovered the deer after tracking it for nearly 1 mile before it started raining heavily and I lost the blood trail after jumping him up twice. I knew I should let him expire but was afraid of losing the blood trail in the rain so I had to look immediately.
