In 1990, Group F of the World Cup Finals in Italy had 4 strong teams, England, Holland, Ireland, and Egypt. After they played each other in Palermo, Holland and Ireland could not be separated in the table, so a special draw was held in Rome after the final group games were played to determine how they would finish. Second-place in the group would play Romania in the next round, and Third-place would play West Germany.

Sepp Blatter, Jacques Georges conduct the draw with an assistant in Rome, while the other sound in the video comes from Palermo where the two sides had just battled out a 1-1 draw. There has been no such draw in either the World Cup Finals or European Championship Finals since. Now a complex set of criteria will determine the group standings, should such a situation ever occur in the future.
