Hyundai i20 is amongst the most beautiful sedans in the county right now. Debuted with Verna, the Fluidic philosophy has brought this Korean Automobile company a huge success in the Indian market. Presently, Hyundai offers two variants in i20 - i20 Elite and i20 Active. Today, we will take a look on both the cars and try to find out, which one amongst these two ranks better in performance.
Exterior:
Talking about the interiors, the i20 Active is a standard crossover hatchback as compared to the Elite i20, which looks more of a premium hatchback and there is only a little addition to already featured pack car. With an increase in ground clearance and minor changes to the exterior Hyundai i20 Active falls under somewhere between SUV and hatchback making it a crossover-hatchback. Both the cars look very much alike and the Hyundai i20 Active has been altered a bit to differentiate from Elite i20. The front bumper of i20 Active gets a grille with inverted slats instead of honeycomb design of Elite i20. In order to give a car a rugged look, Hyundai has added a faux cup plates finished in the bottom and round fog lamps in the front. The Korean brand has completed the crossover look by giving the Active roof rails. The i20 Active have projector headlamps with daytime running lights along with cornering lights, unlike the Elite i20. On the other hand, Elite i20 front face has hexagonal air dam and a slim grill. It is also equipped with halogen headlamps. The side profile of top end model of Elite i20 have chrome door handles and stylish diamond cut alloy wheels with a black strip on the doors. This model has a plain structure on its side profile that gives it a classy look. At the rear, it's tail light gets wider and powered by LED brake lights.
Interiors:
Coming you move into the cabin, you will see that black and beige interiors of the Elite i20 are switched to all black look in i20 Active, which is available in two color options, i.e orange and black. The fit and finish of both the cars is excellent. There is ample space for the bottle, cup holders in both. There is no change in the advancement feature in i20 Active. In terms of safety, both cars get ABS and airbags for both drivers and passengers. Boot space of both the cars is same that is 285 litres.
Engine and Performance:
Both Elite i20 and i20 Active come with petrol and diesel engine. Both the cars get 1.4 litre CRDi engine, which generates 90PS of power with 220 Nm of torque. In terms of performance, Hyundai has improved 11 percent of torque in i20 Active. As far as handling goes the extra 20mm of height enables the i20 Active to a slightly better ride and handling. The steering of both the cars is light and has electric power assisted steering system, which is highly responsive and makes handling simpler. The ARAI tested fuel economy of i20 Active is 21.1 kmpl and Elite i20 comes with the fuel efficiency of 22.5 kmpl.
Verdict:
The Base variants of both the cars differ by Rs 1.2 lac and top trims differ by Rs 80,000, i20 Active costs more in both the cases. Elite i20 comes with 5 variants and i20 Active comes with 3 variants. If you are looking for rugged look crossover, then go for i20 Active and if you want to cut your budget and want to buy a featured car, which is good looking and practical, then go for Elite i20.
