Scratch built 1 / 100 scale, length 77 cm, the model boat is based on the WW2 Frigate / Destroyer Escort type vessels. Armed with two 4 inch MK IX guns, four 20 mm Oerlikon and depth charges.

This is primarily an experimental, rather simple model built with overage from other projects; The hull was built (back in 2015) by using large single 2.5 mm balsa plates shaped by putting pressure on them (bending) and soaking them with water to obtain the correct shape before gluing them together. The wheelhouse can be removed for installation of a small camera, the model can handle water on decks, most 280 size motors can easily be installed with 4 set screws, any battery up to a standard "7.2 volt stick pack" can be used, easy access on-board and easy to store / easy to transport. The installed motor is a Mabuchi FC 280 SA. The total number of parts is approx 270.

The Oerlikons, search light, deck vents, ladders, stairs, propeller and lifeboats were bought online. The other is made from scratch. The experimental plated balsa hull and deck was waterproofed before painting.

A short further explanation on building the HULL: The bottom plate was made first, 75 cm long and 8.5 cm wide, narrowed to a point on the bow, and with slightly reduced beam at the stern. Thereafter the bottom plate was placed on the floor, with weights on it on the mid section, the aft end was lifted with a spacer, with enough room below to accommodate propeller & rudder, approx 3 cm. The bow end was slightly lifted 0.5 cm. Thereafter were the sections that were bent soaked with water and water resistant paper tissue. Keeping the bent front and aft section wet for a few days. When dried up, the fore and aft bottom plate bent was permanent. Transverse framing with the same beam as the bottom plate was glued on to the bottom plate. Forward transverse framing with slightly increased with on the top for shaping the bow. Thereafter were the two hull sides cut out, slightly too large, and bent forward and aft in the same way as the bottom plate. Slightly increased bent at the bow lower part of the hull. The hull sides were glued on to the bottom plate with framing after some adaptions and adjustments. Thereafter 5x5 mm balsa was glued inside the hull where the hull sides and the bottom plate meets. After this the outer hull edge could be sanded to a round shape. Pls also refer to the early part of the video.
