Sailing from New York City to Huntington, NY

After a wobbly night behind Ellis Island, we take off on our sailboat down the East River. It's overcast and grey, but it's an amazing ride full of sights to take in! We crane our necks to check it all out. Then we traverse Hell Gate which takes us by Rykers Island and into Long Island Sound. It's fast current makes for a very speedy and fun ride.


Long Island Sound turns out to be beautiful. We spend a few nights in Port Washington, NY and continue on to Huntington, NY. Ready to drop anchor for the night, we're met with tons and tons of mooring balls. No anchoring anywhere! So we need to get on the horn and try to reserve one at the last minute.
