If you hire a video production company you may hear the term "b-roll". What does b-roll mean? And why is b-roll so important? Keep watching and all of this will be revealed.

Hi, I'm Chase Turnbow, Founder of Chase Me Films, Where we help mid-sized companies create high-quality video that generates more leads, moves people to action, and increase profit.

Video Producers often use technical lingo that makes other business professional confused. It's not because we want to confuse you, it's usually just because we want to sound smart. At least that's what I do. (I think we can dial down the aperture and up the ISO to create a better composition for this shot)

So, what is b-roll? B-roll footage is the secondary shots used that do not show the main subject. For instance, the "A-roll" or the primary video subject, is often a person being interviewed, and the shots that you see away from the interviewed person is the b-roll.

Now, why is b-roll so important? If there was no b-roll, a video can easily becoming boring. If I film a business owner talking about his product for 5min straight without any b-roll, we would just have to stare at the guy the whole time. Visually it is not compelling nor engaging and if you want to make money with your marketing videos you have to make sure you aren't boring people to tears.

I hope this helps you out! If you have any questions about b-roll, please leave them in the comment section. Thanks for watching, and click the subscribe button if you like our video production and marketing tips.
