The 12007 / 12008 Chennai Central – Mysore Shatabdi Express is most likely to be the only Shatabdi Express Train that runs with two different Type of Locomotives, i.e. Electric & Diesel during its single journey between the two destinations.The train is hauled by a Electric Locomotive between Chennai and Bangalore further switches to a Diesel Locomotive between Bangalore and Mysore as the stretch is yet to be completely electrified.It is also the first Shatabdi Express of South India flagged off back in the year 1994.
What is more interesting about this Train is that it doesn't have a fixed Class of Locomotive specially for its Electric run.
As seen in the video the Train is hauled by a variety of E-Locos WAM4, WAP1,WAP4 and WAP7 from Royapuram, Arakkonam and Erode Sheds.
It is always a suspense while waiting to spot this train with E-Loco as one would have no clue which loco its going to show up with , unlike most of the other Shatabdi Trains which have a dedicated Class of Locomotives.
The Diesel link is always a Electromotive Diesel (EMD) for the train with variants being WDP4, WDP4B and at times a WDG4 from HUBLI Diesel Loco Shed.The train use to be hauled by a WDM2/3A ALCo until the year 2003.
