These are embarrassing statistics for French transport authorities. Between 5 and 15% of users would be fraudsters. This represents a shortfall of several tens of millions of euros. In large cities, the phenomenon is becoming commonplace. In some stations, passing over the barriers without validating your ticket becomes the rule. For free riders, it is a game, an assumed budgetary choice or even a militant gesture. The most organized have set up systems intended to reduce the risk of infringement: these “mutuals” are sprouting up everywhere. Destitute, the transport authorities seek the parade. In vain.
