The SkillsUSA Championships

The SkillsUSA Championships is THE showcase for the best, most highly skilled career and technical education students in the nation. This national event is held each June during SkillsUSA's National Leadership and Skills Conference in Atlanta, and it's the result of career competitions that occur throughout the year at the local, regional and state levels. At the SkillsUSA Championships, more than 6,500 state champions compete for bronze, silver and gold in more than 100 skilled and leadership events. Medalists also receive scholarships, tools of the trade and, in many cases, job offers.  

The philosophy of the SkillsUSA Championships is to reward students for excellence, to involve industry in directly evaluating student performance and to keep training relevant to employers’ needs. Through an investment from business and industry partners of approximately $36 million, the event occupies a space equivalent to 31 football fields (or 41 acres). Nearly 2,000 judges and contest organizers from labor and industry make the SkillsUSA Championships possible.

This video offers a glimpse of the national event, but nothing comes close to being there in person. The video also shows a bit of the Awards Ceremony, where medalists are announced beneath a well-earned spotlight.
