The war in the Dolomites; the spectacular blasting of the 2462 m high Col di Lana takes center stage. Italian "Alpini" tunneled under the mountain because its massively fortified summit plateau was held by the Austrians, who controlled the surrounding mountains and valleys from this impregnable vantage point. The Col di Lana, also called "Blood Mountain", became the symbol of the Alpine War. It was here that one of the biggest blasts of the 1st World War was detonated.
