This elephant video is just an introduction to the elephants in Kerala state, INDIA.  In the local languages, elephants are called hathi or hati ( हाथी  ) in Hindi and aana ( ആന ) in Malayalam.
Within the genus of Asian Elephants, Indian elephants mainly male elephants ( Tuskers )  play a vital role in the cultural elements, especially in Kerala temple festivals and other religious celebrations.
Our journey begins with a center called Punnathurkotta in near Guruvayoor Temple.   Punnathur kotta acts as a spectacular sanctuary for elephants that are brought from across the country.  All elephants receive the best possible wellness treatments here which denote people's love for elephants.  In this elephant story you can also see the fun elements like elephants dance, elephants playing and elephants bathing of their own kind.  To name a few, Guruvayur Keshavan, Thiruvambadi Sivasundar, Thechikkottukavu Ramachandran, Chirakkal Kalidasan, Mangalamkunnu Karnan etc. are some of the popular Kerala elephants having huge fans.  Thrissur Pooram is the world famous annual Hindu festival showcasing a good collection of decorated elephants.
Varikkasseri Mana in Palakkad district is another center used to take care of few elephants like Moothakunnam Padmanabhan who is a baby elephant and Manissery Rajendran.  The elephant mahouts timely feed them as you can see elephant eating banana and specially prepared ayurvedic medicinal foods.  Mr. Hari who runs this care center and his love for elephants is quite famous.
Vrischikolsavam is another spectacular 8 day-long biggest temple festival in the world performed at Sree Poornathrayeesa Temple in Thrippunithura, Kochi where usually 15 elephants were paraded in contrary to the 2020 pandemic scenario.
The glory of elephants and the spirit of celebrations always hold a place in the hearts of Malayali (Keralite) and its reminiscence will linger forever.  This is why Kerala elephant lovers are colloquially called ' aanapranthanmar ' or ' aanapremikal ' and the word ' aanakambam ' means their deepest devotion to the beautiful elephants of Kerala !!
