The Evolutionary Origins of the Mind with Edward O. Wilson
Professor Edward Wilson, a biologist credited with developing the field of sociobiology, discusses the evolutionary origins of the human mind. Sociobiology studies the biological foundations of social behavior in animals and humans, and Wilson uses this framework to discuss concepts such as the evolutionary strategy of kin selection, the so-called “selfish gene,” genome mapping, human social behavior and cognition, and major stages of evolution. He also examines the link between culture and biology and its effect on our everyday lives. The discussion is followed by audience questions.
Recorded Feb 10, 1987 at 92nd Street Y, New York.
