Dell PowerEdge R630 - Overview

Bob Pellerin looks at Dell's previous-generation PowerEdge R630.

A great versatile used server, the R630 is a 1U dense dual-processor server (E5-2600v3 product family) with room for up to 10 2.5" drives and  24 slots for memory (DDR4 RDIMM and LRDIMM for up to 768GB). Expansion is both fast and easy with a great proven design. Dual power supplies are easy to hot-swap out and can be 495W, 750W, or 1100W to handle heavier uses. This server will run Windows Server as well as a variety of other recent operating systems, including VMware vSphere ESXi 7.0.

Options such as an iDrac 7 module (or license) allow for remote configuration and support.

For those on a budget or a development server, it’s an easy choice. Be sure to upgrade the firmware and so on before loading your new operating system be it Windows or VMware ESXi.
