On June the 26th 1284, 130 children disappeared from a small town called Hamelin (Hameln) in northern Germany. To this day, no one knows what really happened. Some 500 years later, the Grimm Brothers saw this mysterious disappearance as an opportunity to write a saga about what might have happened back then. This famous legend about the Pied Piper of Hamelin was published in their collection of German sagas ("Deutsche Sagen") in 1816.
