Did you know that falls are one of the leading causes of injury in the elderly? It only takes one fall, to have a hip fracture, and put at risk the life of an elderly person. I am Marcos Sacristan and in this video I am going to give you a series of exercises and tips to prevent falls in the elderly, and thus improve their health.

Why are they so important and how can we prevent them?
It is important to understand that falls can have serious health consequences for older adults, including fractures, head injuries and decreased mobility. But more importantly, falls can also affect older adults' self-confidence and independence, which can lead to a decrease in quality of life, a decrease in activity due to fear of falling, and consequently a decrease in muscle strength.
But it's not all bad news, there are many ways to prevent falls! One of the most important is to stay active. Regular exercise can improve muscle strength and balance which significantly reduces the risk of falls.
Other preventive measures include removing obstacles in the home such as loose rugs or cords on the floor, adapting bathrooms by using grab bars, as well as installing extra lights in dark areas. It is also important to regularly check vision and hearing, as any problems in these senses can increase the risk of falls.
I am going to teach you 5 exercises, which you can do at home without any special equipment and which will improve both the strength and confidence you have in your legs.
