EDIT: Good news everyone, for those that have the game you can actually enjoy this difficulty yourselves! To get the Black Hat difficulty (level 16), press the right trigger (R3) while tilting it downward while selecting "Single Play" and don't release it until the DJ table starts spinning. After you hear the vinyl scratch, you can release the button.
As soon as the level starts, you'll notice the increase in difficulty.

Note that you ought to have unlocked the Yellow Hat for Parappa for this trick to work.

Using Cheat Engine I set the game to the maximum internal difficulty - which goes beyond the increase in difficulty made by wearing the different colored hats: orange (base level), blue (level 9), pink (level 10), yellow (level 11). The black hat would be level 16. Yes, the game has 17 different variations for each line. The lower the level, the simpler the lines (played in the Bad and Awful versions).
The black hat is a texture hack - purely cosmetic. There's no black hat unlockable, unused or hidden in the game. But I thought it would be fitting considering the new challenge the teachers are making Parappa put up with - this black beanie symbolizes Parappa's "black belt" by earning a higher rank.
