The pet overpopulation dilemma as experienced by two young women working the front line in a large animal shelter.
Filmed by Erik Friedl in 1983 at the Humane Society of Santa Clara Valley, California. The Executive Director at HSSCV--the late Warren Brodrick--welcomed the filming as an opportunity to enlighten and awaken the public.
The number of unwanted animals being euthanized has since dropped and there's been a concerted effort in the rescue movement and in shelters nationwide to rehabilitate, foster and place adoptable cats and dogs. The fact remains that there are still not enough good homes for all the animals being born and millions of cats and dogs are euthanized in this country every year. Please spay/neuter your pets.
