CUTS 15 10 80 RIGHT WING DEMONSTRATION IN SUPPORT OF GUARDIA CIVIL

(15 Oct 1980) An army lieutenant colonel was assassinated by separatist guerrillas. Spain's 102nd political killing of the year. The Basque separatist organisation (ETA) claimed responsibility. The day before in Madrid, the extreme right-wing had organised a mass rally in support of the guardia civil. Members of the armed foces and of the paramilitary corps "guardia civil" are considered legitimate targets by ETA.
