For this video, Bob Paulinski, Master of Wine headed down to the Central Coast of CA to blind taste with three winemakers, Rich and Tedi Schmidt, along with Uli Bentancor. Six wines were blind tasted. This video captures the dialogue that played out.
Rich Schmidt Owner and winemaker at Moose Mountain Vineyards. Practices as a Reproductive Endocrinologist (Fertility Physician) for 30 years. Went to Cal Poly SLO for Mechanical Engineering and Biochemistry. Graduated from Baylor College of Medicine. Graduated from UC Davis extension course for Viticulture and winemaking. Currently a diplomat student for WSET Level 4. Started growing vines in 2008 and now is completely organic and practices regenerative and dry farming in both the San Martin and Paso Robles vineyards. He is passionate about whole food plant-based eating for the health of all living animals and the environment and is on the president's council for the Physician's Committee for Responsible Medicine.
Tedi Schmidt Graduated from Cal Poly SLO wine and viticulture program with a concentration in enology. Gained experience through an internship at Domaine Serene in the Willamette Valley. Transitioned to Moose Mountain Vineyards where she wears many hats besides assistant winemaker to keep the small family winery thriving. Tedi is passionate about sustainability and quickly brought Moose Mountain Vineyards up to a level to be certified sustainable. Passionate about animals, Tedi embraces the whole food plant-based lifestyle.
Uli Bentancor Originally from Uruguay,. His background included his studies at Viticulture University in Montevideo, Uruguay. Graduated in enology and left for New Zealand for 2 years to gain experience in the field followed by an experience at Domaine Serene in Oregon. He joined the team at Moose Mountain quickly opening the winery to the public and introducing our brand to the community. He manages the vineyards and is also on the winemaking team as an assistant. An avid soccer player, Uli quickly joined the whole food plant-based team understanding the innumerable benefits for the athlete.
