The Yerkes–Dodson law is an empirical relationship between pressure and performance, originally developed by psychologists Robert Yerkes and John Dodson in 1908. The law dictates that performance increases with physiological or mental arousal, but only up to a point.
When comparing very high-paying people with ordinary-level salaries while doing things they do not like, high salaries don't have a higher motivation. Rather, higher salaries only add pressure and negative results. It means financial stimulation has a motivational effect to a certain level, but does not increase indefinitely.  Leaders should not forget this fact.
