Pageants are starting to request brief videos from their contestants for social media campaigns, "People's Choice" contests, the application process, or even as new areas of judged competition. This video which is geared towards beginners and non-filmmakers covers the 5 steps to making your own self-introduction video, from writing a script all the way to downloading free editing software. I even made a sample video shoot only with my iPhone so you can see how easy it is!
The main things to remember when shooting your interview, or any scenes with sound, is to choose somewhere quiet, and to stand in front of a window or any source of light so that your face is lit up. Indoor, overhead lighting is not (!!) flattering.
I'm a huge believer in the power of video to convey much more than just what's written on a resume or piece of paper. Making a video like this with a professional Call To Action at the end can help you stand out in the job market since most candidates are not yet doing this. But in the age of social media, TikTok, and the growing use of video in our personal lives, it's only a matter of time before it'll be the norm.
